1. Particle Size and Jetness
The jetness (depth of black colour) and undertone of black masterbatch are directly governed by the primary particle size of the carbon black pigment. Smaller particle sizes provide higher surface area, greater light absorption, and deeper jetness, while larger particle sizes are often utilized for utility applications and cost-effective bulk coloring.
2. UV Stabilization Mechanism
In outdoor plastic applications such as HDPE water pipes, drip irrigation tubing, and agricultural films, carbon black acts as an exceptional UV absorber. It captures harmful solar radiation in the 280–400 nm range, dissipating the photon energy as harmless heat and preventing polymer chain degradation.
3. Dispersive Shear in Compounding
Carbon black has a natural tendency to aggregate. At Barjatya Polychem, our Twin Screw Extruders and high-torque Kneaders generate the specific shear stresses needed to distribute and wet every individual carbon black particle, ensuring filter screenability and smooth surface finishes.
